You will be amazed today. We will trust you with the operation of a hyper modern injection-molding machine! That’s a blast, isn’t it? You fill these machines on one end with plastics granule, and what comes out at the other end is your product. This, in short, would be a high-speed summary of your day at the Baylab plastics. In slow motion, however, it’s not quite as easy. There you have designers with their crazy ideas who will make you sweat. Because in order to realize their color and pattern ideas, you have to make yourself familiar with the functioning, the parameters and the operation of the injection-molding machine.

You also need to make sure that you have enough raw materials available for a product series. You will communicate with the research team about the properties of the material. In the meantime, the communications team is sneaking in a photo shoot for the presentation of your day at the Baylab plastics. You need to keep cool! But you can be sure that your commitment will be rewarded at the end – with a product that you have made yourself.

It’s up to you to make important decisions on the right choice of materials and optimal processing. What is that all about? Well, for example, you test the tensile or tear resistance of the material, or you determine its melt temperature and residual moisture content. Sometimes you’ll find the answer by having a closer look with the microscope. Don’t forget that the design team has set its mind on a special surface structure, while the technology team is still struggling with the operational parameters of the injection-molding machine. And there is also the communications team to satisfy, which bugs you with an urgent interview request for the student newspaper or your school’s website.

Cooperation is not only needed within your own team but also your team and the other teams! Because the goal is to turn a handful of plastic granules into a product together – one that you can show off and that can be used in real life.
