Baylab plastics is a hands-on laboratory, which benefited from independent action from the initial phase onwards. What turned an idea into a concept and, finally, into a student laboratory whose reputation goes beyond the national borders, was the close cooperation of many committed staff members.

The current head of the student lab, Karl-Heinz Wagner, was part of this group from the start. He made a significant contribution to the development of the student lab concept in terms of themes and educational methods. Being himself a chemical laboratory assistant and technician who was trained at Bayer AG, he is fully aware of the needs and interests of students and trainees. During his time as a trainer in Leverkusen and Dormagen, he gained important experience and, since, 1985, has been consistently committed to promote young people. The many prizes that his trainees received at the German youth science competition Jugend forscht, and the many awards Wagner received at the nationwide German trainer competition of the Association of German Chemical Industry Employers illustrate the success of his work with adolescents.

A co-initiator of the student lab idea is Dr. Johann Thim, head of Communication Services/BMS. With him, the idea won a committed supporter who inspired other important Partners with his enthusiasm.
