From a chemical laboratory assistant to a trainer for vocational scientific programs and head of Baylab plastics
I was trained as a…Trainer for vocational scientific programs.
I finished my training…
In 1985 at Bayer in Leverkusen. Today this type of training at Bayer is done by Currenta.
I currently work...
As the head of Baylab plastics and as a “service provider” for Bayer MaterialScience.
The milestones of my career are…
My training as a chemical laboratory assistant and chemical technician, as well as my work in the company’s color research.
Since 1985, I am training young people in scientific professions, such as chemical laboratory assistants, chemists, as well as start-up projects. My work is always about motivating young people for special, outstanding activities.
Since 2006, I have headed the training program at Baylab plastics.
That’s what my typical workday looks like…
First I glance at my planner, which helps me prepare for the individual group. At 8 a.m. there is a team meeting where the agenda of the day is discussed. The official day at Baylab starts at 9 a.m. We explain, convey enthusiasm, motivate, answer questions, instill curiosity, satisfy it and accept all individuals the way they are, while giving them guidance. We do all of the above at the same time but to varying degrees of intensity. And at the end of the day, we cannot wait to get feedback from the students.
My job is important for Bayer / Bayer MaterialScience, because…
I can contribute to building motivated and committed staff at our company, now and in the future. I also fill the idea of social corporate responsibility with life and make young people curious about scientific topics.
I especially enjoy about my work…
That every day is different and that students – despite being at school – produce amazing results.
What I always wanted to say…
If all teachers were as committed as the students who visit Baylab plastics, we would not have to worry about new talent. On the other hand, it is difficult for many committed teachers doing a good job teaching their students.
